About the Pathway to Independence Course...

I'm Diane. My dad recently paid me the biggest compliment. He told me he was talking to a younger co-worker about her teenage son, who she was worried about and exasperated with as he struggled in school. "Just wait," my dad told me he told her. "I had a daughter like that, and now she's a superstar." 🤩

Well, as good as it made me feel that my dad thinks I'm a superstar after a rocky adolescence, the truth is, a lot of us parents don't want to wait. We are constantly vexing over how when to let our teens experience failure and let them figure out and learn from their mistakes...versus when to intervene and provide necessary supports. This stuff is HARD.

That's where my Pathway to Independence course comes in. The course is founded on the principal of identifying the minimum amount of intervention required to support the teen until they are able to independently master whatever skill they need to work on.

Speaking of skills, my system helps preteens, teens, and young adults build confidence and a strong sense of self, and to master fundamental executive functioning skills like organization, time management, task initiation, goal-directed persistence, and many more.

These are the skills our kids need to be successful in school and in life. And that's my goal. I want to help the young people I work with discover their power and potential and be able to thrive in life. 💙

The Pathway to Independence Experience

This is a 6-module course for both teens and their adults, with community and live support components.

The course itself consists of six modules, each module containing 5~ lessons, each no longer than 10 minutes. This course is designed to be easily accessible to busy teens and their families! Each lesson is accompanied by some kind of very short practice or task, designed to help implement and deepen the skills I teach.

The 6 modules for teens are all mirrored by 6 complimentary modules for parents. These modules are designed to give you a window into what your young person is learning, and exactly how you can support them at every stage of their P2I journey.

In addition to the entire course library and all the PDFs and other supporting materials (to which you get lifetime access), course participants also get four months inside our live, private Facebook community, where they can get support and advice from other parents on the same journey. And access to weekly, live Q and A sessions with me. And I do daily check-ins with teens, where we check in reflect on their progress towards yesterday's goals, and set new goals for tomorrow.

Pathway to Independence FAQs

1. What age group is this course recommended for?
The course was designed for preteens through young adults--and frankly anyone who struggles with executive functioning! Where strategies might differ according to age group, I include modifications.

2. My teen doesn't think they have a problem; is this course for them?
One of the things we explore inside the course (on the parent side) is the different dispositions your young person might have towards what they are struggling with. In general, this course will work best for teenagers that acknowledge at least on some level that they could use some extra support, and are willing to do the course. I also have worked with parents whose teens were reluctant to participate, but who could be persuaded through incentives that the family worked out.

3. If there's a teen that doesn't have an adult to do the course with, could this course still work for them?
Yes, a young person who is sufficiently motivated to do the course (which, again, is designed to be interesting and easy to engage with) can absolutely experience success with this course, even if they don't have a parent or adult figure doing the complimentary course for adults alongside them.

4. What if my teen is too busy to finish the course in four months?
No worries! You will have lifetime access to the course. And, after the four months of community and live support have ended, everyone who purchased the course will be invited to join a very affordable membership with me, where that support will continue. In any case, everyone is welcome to take this course on a timeline that works best for them and their teen!
